Of all San Francisco traditions, there are few as divisive as Fleet Week. Some gather on rooftops across the city to take in the spectacle of surprisingly dangerous Blue Angels flights, others say it’s a costly waste of taxpayer money that makes dogs chew through walls.
However you feel about the largest celebration of the armed forces in the country, it’s almost impossible to avoid. The noise of the Blue Angels flights resonates throughout the city, but there’s also plenty of joyous sounds coming from military bands that post up in public parks and bring good cheer as they march around the Marina. Meanwhile, the influx of uniformed men makes for tough decisions for some of the city’s single women (although viral posts from Overheard SF should be taken with a grain of salt).
